Meet Katie

Katie Melville is a Portland, Oregon certified lifecycle celebrant and officiates weddings, funerals, celebrations of life, support for pregnancy loss and infertility, mother and baby blessings and other unique and personalized ceremonies and rituals. Katie holds a Ph.D. in communication and has over 18 years of experience in public relations, strategic communications, risk and health communication. She worked on the federal government’s COVID-19 response from 2020 through 2023 and continue to work for the federal government until her position was eliminated in 2025. She continues to teach risk communication online for Tulane University.

When Katie worked as a Director of Communications for a non-profit organization focused on spirituality and personal development, Katie had a unique opportunity to blend her real-world business acumen with heart-centered work. In 2022 Katie became a certified coach to help individuals integrate pyschological and spiritual experiences to fully excel in their professional and personal lives.

Katie’s credentials:

Katie’s interest in serving people through ceremony and ritual came after her father’s unexpected death in 2014. She began leading women’s circles using rituals and ceremony to provide sacred space for women to explore their spiritual nature and listen to their soul’s longings. When she experienced the tragic death of her spiritual mentor in 2021, Katie formally studied rituals and ceremony to process the loss. She realized the support and role of community is critical to processing the shock of an unexpected death and to healing the inevitable grief. Through her coaching education, Katie learned evidence-based tools and techniques to help people integrate life’s challenges and successes so they can continue live life fully.

Both the pandemic and her personal life have contributed to Katie’s awareness that the preciousness of life can be found in doing simple things. Katie finds her center through being a mama first and foremost followed by meditation, practicing yoga, reading, creating art, snuggling with Luna the cat, and finding ways to make her husband David belly-laugh. She engages in inner work with multiple spiritual teachers.
